Even after the shipbuilder has built reliable and efficient equipment, after the efforts of the contractor to optimise operations, and after thorough training of the operators, the Efficient Dredging concept continues to significantly contribute, providing extra ‘senses’ and ‘hands & feet’ to operators and equipment. Efficient Dredging is more than efficient dredging!
Relatively modest investments in instrumentation, automation, and surveying techniques lead to major improvements in efficiency and accuracy, expresse in lower cost per cubic meter of dredged mixture. Normally, human alertness substantially declines during a shift. By contrast, computers stay awake as long as power is switched on. Consequently, operator-supervised automation can yield production improvements of 15–25% or more, depending on circumstances.
To implement the concept, IHC Systems draws on all kinds of conventional control, automation and presentation technologies. But also on innovative technologies like model-based control, artificial intelligence, real-time simulation and remote system diagnosis & upgrading. It is supported by the knowledge and resources of the entire IHC Merwede group in related areas.
The concept is honed in close alliances with clients and worked out in specific products, systems and services for every category of dredger and every operational field. Of course the products can cope with all dredging conditions: temperature and humidity changes, shocks, dust, abrasive materials, pressure variations and vibrations.
