These valves, used with inboard as well as submerged pumps, allow plain water to enter the suction pipe when the vacuum mounts too high. The water supply valve is also opened to permit water entering the intermediate pipe between pumps, thuspreventing the inlet pump’s pressure to drop below the allowed minimum value. Without supplying extra water, the delivery pump would choke. Manually controlled and automatically controlled versions are available.
