The Cutter Simulator is in use!Back to efficient dredging news On wednesday february 21st we (IHC Systems) put the cutter simulator in use in a festive manner. Mr G. Hamers baptized the simulator and opened the demonstration area. The simulator will be named Francoise de Montesquieu. In the international world of dredging wherein competence and technological challenges are daily occurrences , the accent lies on human skill. Dredging crew are supposed to have sufficient primary training and background knowledge, but the actual and specific training and experience has always been done on board. Considering the huge investments in the acquisition of dredging vessels and the modest number of students graduating from technical and nautical schools, the dredging contractors have been forced to do the schooling on their own account. Schooling the crew on the actual dredging vessel is no longer feasible owing to high cost and the chance of damage. IHC Systems has, in collaboration with related work forces within the IHC Holland Merwede Group , and also under instruction of various West-European contractors, developed a training simulator. Our simulator has a number of realistic process models, including sound and outside viewing both above and under water. Besides this, it is possible to download specific types of implements for training on specific dredging vessels. The simulator can present various types of virtual malfunction forcing the trainee to act on his own initiative! |
