Apart from minimising downtime, the ultimate goal for a dredge company is to increase the dredge performance in terms of efficiency. This can be achieved by integrating hydrographic systems with dredge instrumentation and automation systems in such a way that re-dredge operations and additional surveys are reduced to a minimum. The result of the above mentioned integration is and efficient process visualization complete with data storage and distribution for control applications like Dynamic Position/Dynamic Tracking (DP/DT) and sometimes ECDIS for navigation. This implementation can also be supported by decision-making systems e.g. advising expert systems based on Artificial Intelligence to assist the dredgers’ personnel in their often complex task.
