Sales NewsBack to efficient dredging news Belgium dredging contractor Ondernemingen Jan de Nul N.V. ordered the replacement-delivery for the original Human Machine Interface (HMI) SCADA presentation system on its trailing suction hopper dredger Cristoforo Colombo. The vessel with an excellent track record in operating through-out the World, mostly operating on the river Scheldt, recently for the coast of Dubai creating the famous Palm Tree projects and currently on its way to the –icy environment, of the island of Sakhalin for a multi million offshore contract. The vessel, originally built in 1994 at the Belgian Shipbuilders Corporation, will receive a nowadays SCADA presentation system which is in concept derived from recent built hopper dredgers among them the Juan Sebastián de Elcano. Knowledge within both companies Jan de Nul and IHC Systems, recent presentation experiences and a delicate balance between process- and diagnostic presentation are key figures which led to the current presentation solution. The project, a few weeks underway, started with a detailed verification/specification phase, will comprise an in house application software development for both SCADA and PLC control, a Factory Acceptance Test to enable a smoothly switch-over and the physical implementation on board, which is scheduled for first quarter 2005. Belgium dredging contractor Vlaamse Baggermaatschappij N.V. has ordered a face-lift for its cutter suction dredger Vesalius, currently operating on the Spanish eastern coast near the town of Valencia. After a period of approximately 25 years the dredger was up for a face-lift. Through out the years stand-alone control systems have been used to control the dredging operations and now with the experience of the SCADA systems on board of the recently upgraded dredgers Marco Polo and Leonardo da Vinci the old Dredged Profile Monitor and Automatic Cutter Control system will be replaced. The new SCADA software program with renewed video screen presentations and the PLC control facilities based upon those of the existing cutter fleet will be implemented. In close corporation with the technical staff of the owner a team of PLC and SCADA engineers will design a new look. The face-lift includes a PLC system for control of new operational features, including a link to a newly installed drive system. Both SCADA and PLC application software will be FAT tested in Sliedrecht. Soon, after a planned docking period in the autumn of 2004, the partial renewal of the dredge control console, the new software will be tested on board during final commissioning, scheduled for the first quarter 2005. And with probably a few software stitches the Vesalius is ready for another decade: looking as new! Port Louis Maritime Corporation LTD ordered for its trailer James Cook (formerly known as J.F.J. de Nul) the replacement-delivery for the original Human Machine Interface (HMI) SCADA presentation system. The vessel, a prominent land reclamation dredger with foot steps in Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines and recently Malaysia, was originally built in 1992 at IHC Caland’s yard in Hardinxveld-Giessendam, will receive a nowadays SCADA presentation system. The project comprises in house application software development for both SCADA and PLC control, the delivery of a partial new dredging control console, Factory Acceptance Test to enable a smoothly switch-over and the physical implementation on board, which is scheduled for the last quarter 2004. |
