IHC Holland Dredgers B.V. in Kinderdijk, has ordered at IHC Systems a dredging instrumentation package for the CO1245 a 6.000m3 trailing suction hopper dredge to be build for Karachi Port Trust of Pakistan. IHC Systems will supply the following instrumentation to the dredge:

  • dredge pump vacuum and pressure measurements
  • suction tube position electronic measurement in vertical- and horizontal plane
  • velocity measurement
  • density measurement
  • draught and loading measurement
  • overflow position measurement
  • dredge control console
  • logic controls for hydraulic functions
  • dredge track position system

Dredge Technology Corporation (marketing IHC products in North America) in Wayne USA has ordered at IHC Systems the delivery of IHC Systems’ new generation eXcavator Position Monitor system (XPM) for one of its USA clients, operating a backhoe dredger Komatsu PC1250L-8. The present XPM-NG is a result of a long-lasting Backhoe and Digviewer dredging instrumentation experience of both IHC Systems and Meconaut. Meconaut, a supplier of dredge instrumentation, was bought by IHC back in the early nineties.

Knowledge of excavator presentation and automation within both companies, IHC Systems and Meconaut, led to the present XPM system performance, automation capabilities and presentation features.
The new (redesigned) XPM system will have various interfaces to satisfy owners’ requirements in information exchange with third parties navigation and survey equipment and DTM (digital terrain model) presentation.

Belgium dredging contractor Dredging International N.V. in Zwijndrecht ordered the replacement-delivery for the original Human Machine Interface (HMI) SCADA presentation and its PLC control system on their trailing suction hopper dredger Antigoon. The vessel plays an important role in maintaining the river Scheldt. The vessel, originally built in 1989 at the Belgian Fulton Marine yard, will receive a nowadays/updated SCADA presentation system and PLC control system which is in concept derived from recent built hopper dredgers in the Pallieter class. Knowledge within both companies DI and IHC Systems, recent presentation experiences and a delicate balance between process- and diagnostic presentation are key figures which led to the current presentation- and control solution. The project, a few weeks underway, started with a detailed verification/specification phase, will comprise an in house application software development for both SCADA and PLC control, a Factory Acceptance Test to enable a smooth switch-over and the physical implementation on
board, which is scheduled for third quarter 2006. With this replacement order, the mother of the integrated presentation and control philosophy receives a successor.

The Korean dredging contractor Hyunday Engineering & Construction in Dubai has ordered at IHC Systems the delivery of IHC Systems' datacollect system for its sand carrier Goryo-6HO. Originally built in 1985 as bulk carrier, the vessel was converted to sand carrier in 2001. The Goryo-6HO can carry up to 27.000m3, and is operating in UAE region, assisting in the creation of the famous Palm island projects.

IHC Systems is proud to announce that it received throughout the first quarter 2006 an array of dredging instrumentation orders from IHC Holland Beaver Dredgers B.V. in Sliedrecht for a range of foreign Beaver projects for clients at home and abroad.

IHC Systems’ speed indicator, the well-known production measurement system, comprising a density- and velocity part, remains popular. Customers in Japan, South-Africa and Latvia were among our clients. Density measurement numbers 999 and 1000 were festal delivered in autumn 2000 and are in operation on the trailing suction hopper dredger ‘Rotterdam’ owned by the Dutch contractor Van Oord N.V. Number 1250 is getting close
and we will get in-touch when this milestone will be reached, your company could be the lucky one, we will keep you posted.

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority, has granted IHC Systems the order for the delivery of additional dredging presentation systems for its trailing suction hopper dredger Hansakawa.
The vessel, originally built in 2001 at the Kinderdijk yard of IHC Holland Merwede, has a
hopper capacity of 1.200m3.
The dredger will be equipped with today's dredging instrumentation for:

  • Suction Tube Position Monitoring system (STPM);
  • Dredge Track Presentation System (DTPS);
  • Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS);
  • The update of presently installed instrumentation interfaces;
  • Extensive training;
  • All systems will be delivered including their typical transmitters and will be commissioned in Sri Lanka waters.

At the office of the Ports Authority a DTPS workstation is placed. A dedicated UHF radiolink provides a direct online DTPS image of the Hansakawa dredging activities in its working area.
The commissioning is scheduled for second quarter 2006.
