EU directives on WEEE and RoHS: In 2002 the European Union created two new directives; WEEE and RoHS. Both these directives are aimed to create preventive measures on a legal basis since the number of the mentioned equipment is increasing rapidly and consequently waste management becomes more and more important. The mentioned directives are to become national law by 13th August 2004 in all EU-countries.
EU-directive 2002/95/EC:
RoHS - Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances
The so called RoHS of the 27th January 2003 bans the use of certain substances in new electrical and electronic equipment put on the market from 1st July 2006 (exceptions for certain applications are listed in the Annex of the directive). The banned substances are lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).
EU-directive 2002/96/EC:
WEEE - Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment
The directive 2002/96/EC and the amending directive 2003/108/EC aim at the prevention of waste electrical and electronic equipment. In addition recycling, reuse and other forms of recovery of such wastes are encouraged. Recovery targets exist which vary throughout the product categories and which are to be achieved by 31st June 2006.
The producers have to assure the collection, the treatment and the recovery of the appliances listed in Annex IA of the WEEE which are put on the market after the 13th August 2005.
IHC Systems and the EU directives:
IHC Systems is compelled to guarantee, starting from July 1st, 2006, the delivery of electronic components and products fulfilling all required criteria concerning contents and material used in accordance to EU directive 2002/95EU (RoHs) and 2002/96/EC (WEEE).
At the same time the life cycle time of electronic components decreases with every new release, and in conjunction to the fact that the succession and substitutes of electronic components increases rapidly, IHC Systems is confronted with obsolete PCB’s, which are installed in our presentation products.
Roughly this is the case for IHC Systems’ stand-alone products STPM, DLM, DPM and XPM, developed early nineties and delivered until early last year, for these products no spare PCB’s become available without lead, moreover these PCB’s (with lead) will become obsolete.
It is therefore essential that clients and owners, inform themselves, about the availability of spare PCB’s from IHC Systems. In case their own (created) spare stock of PCB’s is insufficient, we still have (a limited number) of PCB’s processor - and I/O PCB’s for a last life-saving appliance on stock, we therefore advise you to check your own spare stock.
