Back to efficient dredging news
In November 2002 IHC started to build a trailing suction hopper dredger with a contents of 5400 m³ for DEME (Dredging Environmental Marine Engineering).
For IHC Systems this meant delivery of the instrumentation and automation of the dredger functionality. The automation of the engine-room was boarded by IHC to Van der Leun. The actual construction of the ship was boarded to shipyard Van der Giessen de Noord and IHC gave their support wherever specific dredge know how was needed. The IHC Systems project-team consisted of project engineer Johan van Rikxoort, two scada engineers Mohamed Nnafie and Teunis van Buren, PLC engineer Nico Moeren and project manager Marcel van Mourik.
The name given to the ship was Pallieter, the name of the life recipient from the Belgian author Felix Timmermans. In spite of this beautiful name, the Pallieter project had to "face high waves". Especially the situation at the Shipyard Van der Giessen-de Noord became more and more precarious.
New management was assigned within the project organisation and later on it was announced that the construction of the Pallieter would be the last project for this shipyard.
In spite of these "high waves", the project for IHC Systems went very well. Largely because of the good task partitioning and delimitation of responsibilities as well as good understanding and communication, very good results have been booked by IHC Systems. Also, Deme is a very fine client to work with because of their high technological knowledge and operational commitment.
By putting the emphasis on obtaining good functional specifications, we were able to reach a very advanced state of programming. This made commissioning and calibration work easier.
After a short week of commissioning, the Pallieter was handed over to the customer in week 3 of 2004 and is now at her first job in Hamburg. In short, this was a very successful project!
