Back to efficient dredging news
DP/DT, short for Dynamic Positioning and Dynamic Tracking, are operational modes by which the ship, although affected by constantly changing currents, wind and waves, can be accurately kept in or moved to a fixed position (DP), or kept on an accurate track (DT). For this special control equipment is needed, called DP/DT-systems. IHC Systems' DP/DT-system onboard the Prins der Nederlanden is equipped with the latest developed functions such as:
- weather vaning;
- anchor assist mooring;
- on-line capability plot depending on available (or selected) thrusters and total available propulsion power;
- follow target mode;
- and remote maintenance.
Furthermore special attention is paid on smooth steering of the actuators to prevent unnecessary noise (and to reduce wear), especially when no high positioning accuracy is required. The DP/ DT system is fully integrated in the central navigation desk. It takes a central position within the desk, because all operations i.e. from full manual to full automatic control can be carried out with the system: normal sailing with the integrated auto-pilot and the recently type approved track pilot, dynamic positioning and all other possible dredging (steering) modes. The DP/DT system is also interfaced with an ECDIS system and Boskalis' Navigation system. Tracks can be planned within both these systems and are automatically sent to the DP/DT system. Additionally, grid projection data and DP-points can be sent from the Navigation system to the DP/DT system. In order to fully integrate with Boskalis' dredge automation systems, their BokaLan communication protocol has been integrated into the DP/DT system. Besides the conning display of the DP/DT system itself a second (similar) conning display is mounted in the central navigation desk, replacing the normally mounted conventional navigation indicators. In this way a compact (integrated) desk will be realised.
