Hopper dredgers

As IHC Systems pretends to be dedicated to Efficient Dredging, we seriously want to understand and support our customers in their need to perform dredging projects with the highest possible yield in economic, as well as in ecological terms. The utilisation of such capital goods as hopper dredgers means that we are ‘obliged by noblesse’ to provide dredging contractors with means that allow them to apply these precious vessels and their crew in ways that optimise dredging time, cycle time, fuel costs and environmental load, crew stress, accident prevention – operational costs of any kind, in short.

For that purpose we develop, design, produce, commission and maintain products and systems aimed on life-cycle supporting our customers in:

  • Optimising the suction and discharge process
  • Optimising hopper loading and settling
  • Exactly and accurately knowing where to dredge
  • Preventing over-dredging and time losses
  • Enhancing crew’s awareness of the dredging process, and their pleasure in the job
  • Enhancing safety of operation

This dedication has resulted in a complete range of hopper dredger oriented products and systems, ranging from relatively simple sensors and transmitters – or intricate ones, over a series of stand-alone monitoring and control systems to completely integrated and efficient solutions, including among others DP/DT Systems, Dredge Track Presentation, ECDIS, One-man operated bridges, and so on.

For assisting hopper dredger’s crew in developing a growing awareness of the dredging process, enhancement of their ‘natural’ skills, for safety and job satisfaction, virtual real hopper dredger simulators are available for doing so without spending costly vessels to such purposes.

We invite everybody interested to tell us anything they need in this field, and to co-operate with us in inventing innovative solutions for the practical and theoretical problems they are confronted with.

One man-operated bridge. How dedication succeeded in starting a new era in dredging.

A fascinating history
For long years Mr. Etienne Clymans, Manager Newbuilding Department of DEME, had observed that safety, reliability and efficiency of dredging ships was seriously harmed and  ...

Article: a computationally efficient model for predicting overflow mixture density in a hopper dredger

ABSTRACT
Trailing suction hopper dredgers are primarily used in land reclamation projects. In such projects, the operators of the hopper dredger aim to achieve the highest production possible.
