Back to efficient dredging news

The first quarter of this year has not been full of many surprises. We have been fairly occupied, with a continuing stream of upgrading programs, which is a good sign. Dredging projects in the Middle-East keep on growing strongly. During our stay there in February, Rens Klootwijk and myself were able to observe on-the-job the enormous demand of dredge material this region is in for the coming years. Many of our technicians have already been travelling to this part of the world in order to give support to adjustments, upgrades and improvements for both instrumentation and automation onboard of the fleet of the BIG 4 (four Belgian and Dutch dredge contractors) and local contractors. With the final issue of the recently announced projects there will be enough work for the larger part of World Dredging fleet until 2010. For the dredging industry this is a much improved forecast, provided we will be able to capitalize on this with profitable projects. As most of you already know I am appointed to Managing Director of IHC Dredgers, our shipyard in Kinderdijk, as from 01-12-2004. After two decades in GIGA BYTES the opportunity arose to become MD of a shipyard assembling KILOS of STEEL and after ample consideration I decided to turn for a new direction in my career in building dredgers instead of software. The process of finding a new MD for IHC Systems is in full swing. This procedure, however, will probably take some time, as capable candidates are not as plentiful as blackberries. Until this moment -of finding a new Managing Director and his introduction with the company-I will continue dividing my time between both IHC Systems and IHC Dredgers. This might be less visible at IHC Systems, but the involvement is still very strong. I hope we will be able to provide you more information in our next issue of the Efficient Dredging News, which will be at the beginning of July. All in all we will continue working hard again this year to reinforce the position of our client-contractors, client-colleagues and shipyards around the World to maximise "Efficient Dredging". Efficient Dredging is a publication of IHC Systems BV the Netherlands for all those involved in making dredging operations more efficient and accurate.
