The Dredged Profile Monitor DPM enables the dredging operator to verify and control the position of cutter or wheel related to the channel’s centerline, the waterline and the working depth- and  profile setpoints. The system can be equipped with automatic profile/depth dredging, communication with survey equipment and geographical positioning.

ACC/AWC (Automatic Cutter/Wheel Controller)

The Automatic Cutter/Wheel Controller, ACC/AWC, fully automates the dredging process of a cutter or wheel dredger. The core is a control system, added to a Dredged Profile Monitor, type DPM. The Cutter/Wheel Controller regulates the dredging process and displays process data on a colour video screen.The best production is obtained by setting the highest possible swing rate at a given horizontal and vertical cut. In most cases, this swing rate will be achieved when one or more of the following process measures assume a desired value:

  • Cutter/wheel load
  • Swing winch load
  • Vacuum before the dredge pump
  • Pressure between suction and delivery pumps
  • Mixture concentration
  • Mixture velocity

These can be influenced by varying the rate of swing. In a manual control situation, the dredging operator must therefore constantly monitor these magnitudes and, on the basis of the decisive values, increase or decrease the rate of swing. But because of the human fatigue factor, the best possible production will not continuously be attained. With this in mind the Automatic Cutter/Wheel Controller was designed to take over control of the swing winches, dredgepump, vacuum relief valve, ladder winch and spudcarriage.

The supervisory system integrates a programmable logic controller (PLC) and a personal computer (PC). Graphic extensions provide a human-machine interface (HMI) function for presentation of process values and communication of the operator with the system. By the application of a PC/PLC configuration, auxiliaries such as communication with other systems, such as survey, positioning, integrated data recording and reporting and flexible integration of custom-built applications are relatively easy to incorporate. The Automatic Cutter Controller can be integrated in the DPM as an option.

Ladder Winch Controller
The main efficiency factor for the production of a stationary (deep) dredger is a constant suction process. The Ladder Winch Controller is designed for controlling the ladder winch in order to keep the vacuum and density at the desired values. The Ladder Winch Controller can be integrated in the DPM as an option.
