Cutter dredger training simulator operational

Back to efficient dredging news

Friday September 30th the cutter dredger training simulator “Constance Bonacieux” became operational at the Société de Dragage International S. A. (S.D.I.) office in Lambersart near Lille in France. The cutter simulator is developed by IHC Systems and TID on behalf of and in close concert with SDI/DEME. The opening ceremony was performed by Mr. Marc-Philippe Daubresse mayor of Lambersart.

The simulator creates the possibility to train dredge-masters how to handle a cutter dredger, a selection of 5 different cutter dredgers is available within the library of the simulator.
The trainer is able to introduce disruptions to the dredging process, which must be identified and solved by the trainee. In this way, without placing people and vessel at risk, it is possible to train for hazardous situations, and to repeat the program, until the disruptions and its consequences are adequately solved.

The training program has been designed in such a way that it can be performed by employees of different levels of skill, enabling them all to broaden and deepen their dredging knowledge.

An artificial outside view created by 3 ea. 1500*2000mm presentation screens set up in a frame to enable a 120° view on the foreship, with operating side- and ladder winches, cutter, ladder and land (sea) scape, completes the ‘natural’ environment in which a dredge-master is used to operate.
IHC Systems wishes the SDI cutter dredging staff many stimulating training hours under their (DEME) motto:

There’s no substitute for experience
